Being a good role model is a great idea if they interpret you as an image that they could be like. Or, they could get jealous of how you have it more together than them so they find ways to poke holes in your character to make themselves feel better. It’s really unpredictable what turns things could take.

Compassion should be the first option, but compassion can go wrong. It can turn into enabling. That certainly is a waste of time, and harmful.

People do deserve a chance, but since not everyone takes it.. and you can be hurt in the process… I would say there are situations that are a waste of time until something changes.
