Why you Need to Take Part in No Nut November

Far right extremism or personal empowerment?

In case you don’t spend your life on the internet, No Nut November (NNN) is an internet challenge where the rule is that you cannot ejaculate for the entire month of November.

For many, this is a joyful and motivating challenge, but obviously such a radical idea has garnered some heated criticism.

Left-leaning publications in particular are skeptical of this challenge as it is increasingly popular with the right online. They sense that it threatens the notion of sexual liberty and could be a resurgence of some form of puritanical abstinence that will once again ‘force’ itself upon the masses.

I’ll let you in on a secret…

The root of NNN IS the virtue of chastity.

But what you may not know is that chastity is not always the same as abstinence.

Chastity is the avoidance of unreasonable sexual activity or relationships. Not all sexual activity.

Different cultural customs can alter what constitutes unreasonable sexual behaviour, and so some of the humor surrounding the challenge is that No Nut November arbitrarily deems the month of November as the criterion of unreason.

Chastity is actually quite a reasonable idea. It is related to temperance and prudence — in other words: balance, caution, reason, and self-restraint for higher ideals. Abstinence is quite plainly abstaining from sexual activity. Chastity doesn’t have to rule out all sexual activity, but a level of abstinence is inevitably involved.

As I mentioned, concerns some have over NNN comes from a distaste for the sexually restrictive elements of the Abrahamic religions, but the left are often more interested in ‘alternative’ spirituality such as Buddhism, and mystical traditions like Shamanism — but guess what?

Restricting sexual activity is usually a major part of the mental purification in these beliefs as well.

No Nut November is largely a tribute to this notion.

Since there is plenty of skepticism online already about this challenge coming from a thorough misrepresentation of the issue, I wanted to outline the real motivations and benefits behind this challenge:

It improves your ‘time preference’ behaviour

Time preference is the measure of whether someone gains a small reward now (high time preference), or waits for a larger reward later (low time preference). Time preference is a major indicator of success as people orient themselves toward future aspirations.

You can easily gain significant pleasure right now by masturbating. But what will you achieve aside from the obvious? Masturbating is a high time preference, instant gratification activity. A low time preference activity would be to meet women you might want to build a relationship with, or working towards something creative.

But when left with a little free time, idle hands truly are the devil’s playground. Over time this can result in many lost opportunities to utilize spare time to further your goals. If it becomes a ravenous habit, then your prospects of success could significantly diminish though stifled progression.

It improves self-control

Masturbating can become addictive, just like porn. Our habits program our minds, and this is certainly one habit we can live without. Masturbating multiple times a day for example wastes a lot of time and breaks focus. Not masturbating for a significant amount of time resets your impulsivity, and if you complete the challenge, asserts a level of self-mastery.

The sexual drive is such a core primal urge that to be able to police your mind and actions against it and only channel it to appropriate contexts is an achievement that separates the men from the boys.

Engaging in NNN will show you just how in control of yourself you really are.

It fosters a team-building challenge

It’s true that men will choose just about anything bizarre to bond over. No Nut November is a difficult challenge with weak moments and perhaps a persistent dull ball-ache, but through the mutual struggle, the challenge builds a supportive community and facilitates male-bonding.

It avoids the harms of pornography

Pornography is a broad industry with many different outcomes for people, but those who take part in No Nut November generally believe the negatives far outweigh the positives. Porn can affect mental health, it can condition ejaculatory preference, form habits, support sex trafficking, coercion, and misleading women into bad contracts. There is definitely a dark side to pornography.

It asserts higher principles

Masturbating requires no human virtues, yet restraining yourself demands many: Discipline as self-control, Temperance as balance in all things, Prudence as exercising good judgement, Honour as respect for the self and others, and Integrity as adhering to a personal code, to name a few. Limiting sex acts to more meaningful contexts also utilizes sex as an act of bonding.

It gets rid of distractions

It’s akin to taking a social media detox. When you cut it out of your mind and make that decision, it’s easier to focus on purposeful things. Sexual thoughts and images are very distracting — that’s why it’s mitigated in education and the workforce. It’s a drive that takes a lot of strength to overrule. Particularly for men it is an issue as they masturbate and view porn much more often than women.

You have a clearer head to focus on your goals. Masturbating can apparently be used as a coping mechanism, or a release of stress — but also used to avoid problems you don’t know how to solve. It can be like eating poorly when you’re unfocused and depressed.

The Ultimate Nemesis of No Nut November: The Coomer

Articles around the internet are not only claiming that not masturbating can negatively affect your health, and NNN is some far right extremist challenge as if a bunch of dudes not wanking is going to destabilize society. They are also claiming NNN shames average men who masturbate, calling them ‘coomers’. But this is how I would characterize the coomer:

The coomer is someone who is sex focused while important elements of their life are in disarray. Their opinions are formed based on whether they would afford them access to more sex or sexual material. They defend deviant content online because they are so deep in the masturbatory abyss that only the most extreme content will get them excited. Because of this, they become liberal and libertarian only to advocate for the normalization of their perversions.

The coomer promotes sex work and women’s sexual freedom not for the benefit of women, but solely for better ease to use women as a means to their end. In short, he is wholly guided by sex and will alter his principles in order to access more of it.

By all accounts, this is not an honourable man. An honourable man to a sincere NNN acolyte is a man who controls his impulses, leads by his values, and remains steadfast despite his pleasures. He delays gratification in favor of more meaningful relationships.

A coomer is a hedonist and a nihilist, with no interest in developing himself and prefers rationalizing his obsession with sex and filling his spare time with self-pleasure. His values don’t place sex into context, sex determines where his values lie and keeps them malleable.

So not exactly your “average” man.

Beyond No Nut November

In the wider manosphere, it is common that men are advised to unfollow any Instagram models, deactivate OnlyFans subscriptions, quit porn, join NoFap, and avoid being a simp — that is, belittling your character to pursue attention by women.

Why?

Because sex as the primary motive takes a man away from respecting himself or others. Unchecked desire makes an object out of a subject. It subverts his moral framework and goals. A man can become subservient to it, and women then become only a two dimensional surface representing potential sexual fulfillment.

Sex is a vice to a weak man because it requires strength to go beyond it.

Could you trust a man who cannot control this impulse?
